SSL Certificates are security systems or "virtual security guards" that manage data between your Site Visitors and your Virtual Property. An SSL Certificate encrypts or converts information into a code before it (data) begins its journey across the Internet. In many cases, a shared SSL Certificate is all you need to host your Virtual Web Property (website), but there are some differences in using a "private" certificate and a "shared" certificate. This article covers these differences to give you a better idea of your domain security.
Shared SSL Certificates are provided on all of our Virtual Rental or Lease Properties. This allows Virtual Tenants to enjoy the encryption that SSL provides without purchasing your own private SSL Certificate. Shared Certificates are issued on a short-term basis (every 90 days), not like private certificates with longer terms such as 1 to 3 years.
Shared SSL is not recommended for e-Commerce Virtual Properties since your customers will expect your domain to have its own private SSL certificate.
